I bought one of those cheapie candle warmers that costs about $5 at Wal-Mart. I really like it, but I wonder if it's safe to use for long periods of time? I forget to shut it off before I go to bed and it makes the house smell great, but I would hate to start a fire. Also, does the candle ever get used up? I don't see how.

I'd say probably TRY to remember to turn it off before you go to bed, but if you forget and it's in a safe location (like one where nothing could possibly fall into the candle or come in contact with the hot part of the warmer...also where no pets can mess with it), you should be fine. I just wouldn't make a habit of leaving it on for extended periods of time. I can tell you that my mom turned one on at some point before they left to go on vacation last fall...I was there housesitting and didn't notice it till I'd been there for 4-5 days at least. Eeker Nothing bad happened, but it was unnerving to think it'd been on that whole time.

That also leads me to the "using up the candle" thing...obviously, most of the fragrance was gone out of the one my mom had burning, 'cause I didn't notice it till I was right on top of the burner and happened to see the light on. So no, the volume of wax doesn't go down (at least noticeably), but it'll become less and less fragrant as time goes by. HTH! Smiler

this is gonna sound weird, but i am a hairstylist and we use those for our spray bottles to keep them warm. we have all had our original ones for a long time. we have never turned them off until we close up at night so they are on for at least 12 hrs straight, 6 days a week, now i am sure that the company that makes them would not suggest that, but i have been there for 10 years and i still have the same one. Now i do have a couple of them at my house and have forgotten them overnight, which i dont make a habit of, but i have had them awhile too,
so it should last a long time.
i always feel safer if i forget that as opposed to a burning candle with a flame.
also no soot Woohoo
