A friend of mine just started on the the South Beach Diet. She claims that it is better for you than Adkins and she has relatives that have all lost 20+ pounds on it. Anyone here on the diet also? I myself am not on it but she is trying to get me to do it along with her. I'm curious to see what people think of it.

Scarlett,
I think the South Beach diet is much easier than the Atkins diet. You follow the strictest part of the diet the first two weeks and should loose about 8 pounds. I followed it loosely and lost about 7 pounds. I CANNOT give up caffeine and need some real sugar every day, and of course the first two wks they want you to give that up. I only stayed on it about 2 wks and have kept the 7 pounds off. I am considering going back on...would really like to lose about 20 pounds.

My family and I have been doing South Beach since the beginning of the year, and are having wonderful results. Good weight loss, lots of energy and sense of well being, and my husband's cholesterol levels have REALLY dropped since we've been doing this. I think it's a very healthy diet. There's a lot of good info on the internet about it, if you don't want to buy the book...

Thank you for your replies! I think I may have to try this diet if it works as well as everyone says it does!

Try Weight Watchers... My hubby & I have been doing it for almost a year and he's lost 90 #s and I've lost 88.5#s. We love it! We don't go to meetings, we do it over the internet @ Weightwatchers.com. (We don't work for weight watchers either, we just highly recommend it) You can eat anything you want as long as you keep up with your points.

I too have to recommend Weight Watchers. I have lost 76 pounds so far and my cholesterol went down 54 points, from 197 to 143. The program is very flexible and there are no forbidden foods. Plus, you feel great!

I have not ever been on Weight Watchers, but two people who work for me are. One has lost 15 pounds and feels much better. The other person was VERY thin to begin with, but has lost 3 pounds and feels better because she is actually eating things that are good for her!!
