I've been doing it for almost two years now and love it! I started on Atkins then when I lost the weight I needed to lose I switched to a healthier low carb plan that works for me (maintenance). I'd love to get some tried and true low carb recipes... I have a few myself if anyone is interested.

Congrats on keeping up with the diet Olfactorygirl. I know a lot of people who tried it but never kept up with it, therefore, they weren't successful in getting their ideal weight. I can never go on the Atkins diet. I love carbs. I don't think I can ever give it up Smiler

My dad did Atkins around four years ago and he lost 50 pounds or something. He hasn't stayed low-carb, but he's still managed to keep most of the weight off. I love carbs too much to do this, but, like Edward, I'm hoping to lose 20 pounds. We'll see... Fish

I can tell you already that low-carb diets won't work for me b/c I love carbs. Also, one of the main criticisms of low-carb diets is that it doesn't allow for much food options for those who practice any form of vegetarianism. There are some meals where I won't eat any meat at all & there are some meals where I'll have chicken w/ my meal. Therefore, I need carbs when I decide to have a meatless meal.

hey guys! I guess it's easy for me because I'm not too addicted to carbs. I'm lucky that it just works out for me. I'm not a big pasta or rice eater. I hate that I have to home cook almost all of my meals though.

Low carb is really hard if you're a vegetarian. It's almost impossible I bet.

I thought about trying a low-carb diet. I've known people who have lost a lot of weight that way. However, my biggest weakness is baked goods! Love I don't think I would last too long, so I'm just trying to cut back in general and work out more.

I did a no carb diet about 2 years ago, I lost 30 pounds but I gained back 10 pounds when I started adding carbs again. Frowner I'm not doing it now because I just don't have the willpower. I think drinking diet soda instead of regular helped alot, I used to drink like 6 sodas a day, that's alot of carbs right there.

I never used to drink a lot of sodas until I moved here. I only drink Diet Rite, because it doesn't have any sodium and doesn't have aspartame. It's great and the raspberry one smells exactly like raspberry granitaSmiler

Aspartame is an artificial sweetener which contains components that can be harmful. It's deemed safe to use, but it's best to avoid it if you can.

My mom bought Diet Rite and I hated it. It tasted really chemically and not good at all. Last semester I gave up soda entirely, I used to drink as much as 6 a day, but I quit cold turkey. Since then, I do drink a coke every now and then but I don't crave it like I used to. When you think about it drinking a coke is like eating a candy bar, totally unhealthy.

Soda is one of THE worst things you can put in your body (well, besides illegal drugs, tobacco, etc). They're nothing but empty calories from sugar. I used to drink a few sodas a week (maybe 3 or 4), but I've cut way back from that ... I don't even have 1 each week anymore.
I read recently (wish I could remember where, I'll try to look up the souce) that drinking just ONE sugar-sweetened drink per day (juice drinks count too) basically doubles your risk of Type-II diabetes. That's just not a risk I am willing to take.
I really don't know where diet soda fits into that statement, but I don't care for any of the diet sodas that I have tried.
I drink almost nothing but water, except for my one cup of coffee in the morning. Sometimes I have juice, but not as often as I used to.

Ciao!

Well, that's depressing news. I drink soda a lot (usually clear ones, but still), and when I'm not drinking that I usually have juice. Sometimes I drink water, bgut not as often as I should. Janelle, since we're both at extra risk for diabetes (mom's mom), I guess I'll be cutting back on my sugary drinks and busting out the lemon juice to put in my water.

my sis is a serious athelete and she hates the diet soda stuff. she says it actually breaks down muscel fiber after awhile and is a carcinigin? any ways she gave me the impression it was just as bad as the sugar kind if you drink it regularly. Low carb sounds good but I have now will or wanting to stay away from pasta and rice. I try to always eat brown versions of the stuff so it's better for the blood sugar. and balance the plate w/ protein and veggie.

I've also heard that diet pop was bad for you. I guess the aspartamine causes you, among other things, to crave sugary foods so you end up eating more in the long run. I still love my Diet Dr. Pepper, though... I figure it's better than gulping down 200-plus calories in a regular soda.

I don't drink pop as much as I used to, anyways. I'm a Starbucks girl now! Love
