Does anyone know of anything to help with the appearance of scars?

My sister had two back surgeries earlier this year. During her second surgery, it took her surgeon over one hour to cut through the scar tissue from her first surgery; sadsmiley somehow she healed too quickly (happened to 3/5000+ patients.)

Her scars is giving a red, protruding appearance. eek3 I thought about the Kneipp's Arnica cream, but wasn't sure. Does anyone have any thoughts - agree / disagree?

Shelle, that sounds so horrible (hug for your sister).

The only product I know of on the market that's supposed to reduce scars is Mederma. I've tried it a few times & it works OK, but it's not a "miracle potion". I think that's more for smaller scars though. It's also kinda expensive, so I just eventually ended up buying the Target brand version.

PS Lychee body butter helps to reduce uneven skin tone & got rid of some splotchiness I had on my skin earlier in the summer. I've tried the Kneipp Arnica cream & know it works decently for bruises, but not so sure how it would work on scars.

Those scars sound kinda scary. So I would say that it might be best if she visits a dermatologist if she can afford to do so. She might be able to hear about more insight into the topic that way.

Shelle,

I highly recommend Sher Essence 100% Organic Unrefined East African Shea Butter. Also Sher Essence Premium Virgin Unrefined Shea Butter & Emu Oil.

The East African Shea Butter contains 100% organic shea butter and is very creamy. East African Shea Butter is very rare and expensive but has no scent.
It's so rich, that upon first application, it healed the soles of my feet and heels which have become dry and cracked from taking all the meds I have to take.

The Shea Butter with Emu Oil is 80% shea butter and 20% emu oil and a little thicker. This product has helped tremendously with scars, bruises, and skin irritations on the body as a result of injuries due to taking Coumadin (blood thinner which makes the skin vulnerable to cuts, bruises, and scars).

Commercial products like those from BBW and The Body Shop which contain shea butter only have about 3% shea and the rest is fillers, fragrance and chemicals. They don't really 'cut it' although they are nicely packaged and presented.

Sher Essence has a website. It's www.sheressence.com

Sherry, the owner, is one of the nicest, kindest ladies I've met on line. When I told her about the scarring, scabbing (sorry to be graphic), bruises and so forth..she had the products at my home in 2 days via priority mail.

The large East African Shea is about $21 for 8 oz (you can get a smaller size) and the Shea with Emu was approx $6.99 for oz. They worked immediately and I am ordering more. You can also use the East African Shea as a facial moisturizer..just a tiny bit is needed. All of the cuts, etc on my legs are almost gone after a few days!

Sher Essence also has custom fragrancing in the scents you guys all know and loveSmiler

Thanks for letting us know about the Shea Butter products! I have such problems lately with cracking skin on my feet - I'll definitely have to give that a try.

shelle - I'm sorry to hear that this happened to your sister. I had breast reduction surgery about 5 years ago and had some scar issues too. According to my doctor they were hypertrophic scars. My scars were very red, puffy and painful. To correct them, he gave me collagen injections directly into the scars. The injections were painful but today my scars are flat and very light and you can barely tell I've had the surgery.

This may or may not be what your sister has but it might be worth a consult with her doctor or perhaps a dermatologist to ask if it would help.

Either way I hope she can find something that will help. Visible scars can be emotionally painful and take a toll on our self esteem.
