Angie, I usually use it in the morning, but be sure to use a moisturizer that contains at least SPF 15 afterwards if you choose to do it in the AM.
You can also use it in the PM or both, but always moisturize after you put it on.
Alpha hydroxy acids make your skin smooth and soft and since I have been using it my skin doesn't flake anymore, it doesn't seem to be dry or oily either. The Alpha Hydrox brand is awesome because it's not expensive and it contains 12% solution rather than the usual 8% of Alpha hydroxy acidsSmiler

Oops. I forgot to mention SPF. Sorry.
Eeker

I have one from Jurlique, SPF 30 (I think). Since I work from 3 to 11 and am rarely out in the sun, I hardly use it.

Am highly allergic to suncreens and they burn my eyes after awhile. The Jurlique one is very expensive. Would recommend one from Origins instead.

In addition to the Alpha Hydrox souffle, other 'staple' items are Origins Perfect World White Tea Skin Guardian, The Body Shop Tea Tree face wash (only after working in heath care)and Walgreen's Refreshing Aloe lotion.

Moisturizers are a matter of what works. I can get away with almost anything, even Lychee Body Butter from BBW. Have a lot of samples and freebies, experiment with new stuff and just use whatever is on hand.

I tried Avon Anew and it burned the crap out of my face.

Like the Jafra Revitalizing Pearl Cleanser and Clinique Liquid Face Soap Mild.

Tend to avoid cleansing 'wipes'or pads, facial scrubs, and anything by Neutrogena or Clean and Clear.

When really lazy or tired, just plain Dove soap is okay.

The days of Chanel, Clarins, Shiseido, etc are over because they really didn't do anything dramatic. Used 'em or gave 'em away because I got 'em freelancing for those lines.

I'm curious about this Alpha Hydrox... do you really need a moisturizer with SPF after using it? I'm searching for good skincare products and I tried several:

1) neutrogena facial cleansing formula, dove toner & co bigelow deluxe facial moisturizer
* works okay with me, no dramatic results

2) continuosly clear kit (bought at hsn)
* i got attracted to it when i was watching their product presentation and thought of giving it a try. my skin broke out! the person who saw me thought i have hives, i sent it back.

3) wei east china herbal collection
* same thing (love watching home shopping programs ) with cc, got attracted to the presentation. again, it was an okay product, but my face looks a bit oily when i put everything on.

4) philosophy make-up optional kit
* they had it on qvc for today's special value, and i said to myself, why not give it a try? i can always send it back...
i'm hoping this 4th one would bring results.

anyway, i noticed most of you here already have a good skincare routine. i was hoping (maybe jeff can help me? please) someone can give me tips or advise about skincare? would it be okay if i incorporate the alpha hydrox to the philosophy line? Confused help

Well Luvgudeals,
Coffee

I didn't know Philosophy had a skin care line. Because I hate their other products (IMO only, please don't key my car).

Should someone give me anything Philosophy, it's...'regifted'.

Don't be influenced by 'infomercials' or QVC.
It's tempting to be sure.

Your skin care routine would start with, "What is your biggest skin care concern?" Followed by, "How much time do you have to perform it." And then "How much are you willing do spend?" (The latter ya don't say when you're working in a store, of course).

I've never used Proactive. Mall kiosks tout it.
idunno

I do know someone who swears by it, because the LaMer she uses breaks her out.
She needs to answer her clue phone but is oblivious.

So feel free to ask away. I don't get a commission from anyone.

Thanks for replying so fast, Jeff! Smiler

My biggest skin concern? I think I look mature for my age, I'm only 28. I just wanted my skin to look healthy (not flaky & dry), no pimples if possible and smooth. or maybe something that i can use that would make me look my age or even younger? Roll Eyes btw, i don't have much pimples and i have a medium-tan complexion. And as for time, i have lot of time available. And for the budget, I'm willing to spend on something that actually works.

Luvgudeals, definitely try the Alpha Hydrox souffle. It's around $15 but if you purchase it at the cosmetic counter at Walgreens you get a $3 discount.
I used to have flaky skin in certain areas, but after using the souffle it got rid of the dry areas. No matter how much I used to moisturize before it would always be flaky.
My skin is really smooth too, without having to use any scrubs or peels.( I still scrub though)

I'll see if I can go to Walgreens tomorrow and purchase one. Do I have to use a moisturizer after this? And is the $3 discount automatic, or I have to ask the cashier about it? And can I return the item if it doesn't work on me?

I'm sorry I asked so many questions...

luvgudeals,

You might have to ask the cashier about the discount on the Alpha Hydrox Souffle.

While you're there, you might consider picking up Physician's Formula Beauty Spiral Brightening Foundation in Brightening Sun Beige. It's about $9.99. It's a compact makeup but very light coverage.

Apply it over your favorite moisturizer.

And you will look like a million dollars BEFORE taxes!

You still have to moisturize after you use the AH souffle.
Ask for the discount, it's not an automatic one, but you have to check out at the cosmetic counter, because that's where they keep the coupons. You can return it, because when I checked out once, someone asked the same question about another lotion. And the checkout lady said that she could if she had her receipt. But ask again, just to be sure. Hope I was helpful to youSmiler

Big Grin Had to giggle when I read that one-- those are two of my favorite drugstore brands (along with Olay!) I have used the C&C Morning Glow for a couple of years now under makeup-- love it. I also use Neutrogena Healthy Skin foundation and the cleansing pillows.

However, I think you and Fryl have me convinced about the Alpha Hydrox souffle! I am planning on checking it out tomorrow at Walgreens! Crazy

Thank you both! Bowdown

I'm excited about the AH, I hope it works for me...

Jeff, I read in your previous post not to mix chemicals, I look at the formulation of the Philosophy moisturizer Hope in a jar and I was wondering what you think about combining the two? (AH + Phil HIAJ)

Here's the ingredients:
water, lauryl lactate, behenic acid, behenoxy dimethicone, glyceryl stearate se, glycerin, behenyl alcohol, cyclomethicone, pentaerythrity tetracaprylate/tetracaprate, topopheryl acetate, benzyl alcohol, retinyl palmitate, stearic acid, panthenol, betaglucan, lavandula angustifolia (lavender)oil, xanthan gum, triethanolamine, propylene glycol, geraniol, limonene, linalool, methylparaben, propylparaben, diazolidinyl urea.

Whew! That was long... sorry, i had to type everything.

Angel, I also love Olay products. I bought a few of the Regenerist line not too long ago. Wish I had "discovered" Olay sooner! They are excellent products for absolutely reasonable prices.

You're welcome Luvgudeals!Smiler

Luvgudeals,

I do not see anything in the Philosophy HIAJ that would conflict with the Alpha Hydrox Souffle.

HIAJ looks like a very ordinary moisturizer.

The products which should NOT be mixed are by Elizabeth Arden, so I think you are safe.

As Fryl mentioned, please use a sunscreen or wear makeup that contains at least SPF 15. SPF 6 will not cut it.

Thanks again, Jeff!

It's good to know that there's no conflict between the 2. Unfortunately, HIAJ doesn't have any spf. Would it be okay if I just use the AH at night? Or is it absolutely, positively required?
Am I stubborn or what? Banging Big Grin

Haven't had the chance to go to Walgreeens today, but I'll get it sometime this week.

luvgudeals,

I prefer to use the Alpha Hydrox at night so it can work while I sleep.

Since I have a figurative 'gas mask' of stuff on my face which includes Origins APW White Tea Skin Guardian, the Alpha Hydrox would not 'get thru'

Hey All.

I have been using Alpha Hydrox for a week now and I LOVE it. My skin has never felt so smooth and the reddness on my cheeks has definetly calmed down. I use it at night along with my Origins APW White Tea moisturizing cream. In the am I use APW White tea guardian AND cream. Then I put on some of my MAC Prep and Prime and my makeup stays put all day and I have a nice dewy glow all day. I'm also using Modern Friction 1-2 times a week.....not 3 cuz Jeff told me 3 was too much Nono
I finally feel like my skin care is on track...Yayyyy Clap Mango
