I thought I'd start a new movie thread. I saw The Da Vinci Code today. Loved it! Very true to the book and well-played out. I absolutely loved the book, too. Don't know why the critics have given it a bum rap, I really enjoyed it. Sir Ian McKellen was great as Leigh Teabing, and I have been officially in love with Tom Hanks since I was little. Do I care that he's older than my father AND happily married? Not a bit. But I digress... The Da Vinci Code is really quite good, although I stand by my position that Dan Brown's other Robert Langdon adventure, Angels and Demons, would make a much better movie. Don't know what I'm talking about? Read both books and get back to me.

Oh man Becky, I disagree totally. I thought the movie was snoozeville. I thought Tom Hanks gave his worst performance ever! It didn't even seem like him, it seemed like his poorly coiffed, disinterested under study. I thought the entire film lacked any sort of thrust or momentum. It was true to the book, but a little too literal. I felt like someone was reading to me for two hours. I thought there was very little imagination to any of the film, except for maybe a few particular scenes (so few I could probably count them on one hand). I was very disappointed with Tom Hanks, Ron Howard, and the entire movie itself.

I'd say Tom Hanks' worst performance ever goes to The Terminal...or maybe The 'Burbs. I agree that it did lack momentum in some parts, but overall I liked it. I'd say my biggest complaint about it is that it was literally too dark. I had a hard time seeing the scenes in some parts.

I'm planning to go watch The Da Vinci Code sometime this week. I heard that the reviews aren't that great but I still want to watch it. I'll post my review right after Smiler

Jade,

I want to see DaVinci also.
Love
Also Poseidon.

My nephews are very handy at providing me with copies of DVD movies before they are released.
Eeker

Reviews? Never underestimate the poor taste of the American public.

Becky, that's what my friend told me. "they should've done angels and demons" instead. He really loves that book too. He didn't like D code much but loved that one! I'm going to borrow it soon. Yes

I saw RV yresterday. It was cute, but it has a lot of slapstick humor in it.

anan,

I want to see that one too!

I always thought Keanu was a "cutie". But I never hear anything about him being hooked up with anyone. idunno

I also haven't seen "Memoirs of a Geisha" yet either and want to. I read the book and I loved it. (Tried the perfume though). Big Grin

The Lakehouse is based on a Korean movie that I just recently saw. It's slow, but very romantic, I totally got swept up in it. I hope the American version is just as romantic, I'm a sucker for weepy romances.

Olfa, Angels and Demons is soo much better than The Da Vinci Code (and I LOVE Da Vinci Code). A&D is much faster-paced, has bigger twists and turns, and is a bigger nail-biter. Definately borrow it from your friend.

I just bought my tickets for the midnight screening of X3...I'm REALLY excited for that.

Edit: And for those of you who were interested, they're starting to work on a film adaptation of Angels and Demons - Tom Hanks and Ron Howard haven't signed on yet, but the writer of The Da Vinci Code (movie) is back for Angels and Demons

I ended up seeing "The DaVinci Code" today, but it wasn't a movie of my own choosing. I wouldn't say that it was bad, but it dragged along in the end. However, I was disturbed by the monk.

A couple of wks. ago, I saw "Just My Luck". It was a cute movie, but I'd rate it as just OK. However, I was impressed to see Carlos Ponce in it. Love But the list of movies I want to see this summer is as follows: "The Breakup", "Cars", "The Devil Wears Prada", "Click", & "My Super Ex-Girlfriend". So basically nothing too intellectual. Yes
