Hey peeps-I'm getting an iPod, and I'd love any advice on using one, or any kick butt song downloads! Thanks! Banana

It's kind of the same here. I'm ready to get an Ipod b/c I'm tired of CDs, or more precisely I'm tired of people dropping my CDs & cracking the cases every time I have to relocate. So advice would be helpful.

Anan, what type of Ipod are you getting? I plan on getting the pink one. Yes

I have an mini iPod and I really regret getting it. It's given me nothing but grief, it's tossed aside somewhere now. The battery was supposed to last 18 hours (it's the newer and improved mini), it doesn't even last two now. Ipods are notorious for having bad batteries and eventhough Apple knows this, they won't replace it for free.
You can only work from one computer, but I found some software that allows me to tranfer the music.
The only cute thing is that I had my name lasered on it and it's pink.Big Grin

I would recommend an mp3 player over an iPod. I find them to be more convenient and easy to use.

My sister has a shuffle and she adores it, but I want the ability to immediately select the song I want to hear. I'm thinking of getting some kind of player with my tax return money next January. I was leaning toward a nano (I think that's what they're called?), but I'm not sure. . . .

I was gonna get a shuffle b/c they are cheap, but then I think about if I want to upgrade I basically cancel out the shuffle. I'm gonna get a white nano (the smaller GB one). This way I can also get a tape adapter and play it in my car as I don't have a CD player in my car and I get sick of the radio and putting things on tapes.

Wendy, why do you prefer an mp3 player vs an iPod?

Megan, I KNEW you'd choose a pink one Big Grin

I don't have much experience with iPods, but they confuse the heck out of me. mp3 players are just plug in and load and are smaller and easier to carry around. Well, the compact ones like mine are.

It pretty much is, but iPods are only compatible with iTunes.

You're right BBW Rawks, I think what Wendy is talking about are the mp3 players that are memory card-based.
An iPod has a hard drive.

Yeah, and I think you actually need to pay for iTunes. mp3 players can play any mp3 files: ones from CDs, ones downloaded from websites, ones downloaded illegally or legally, etc. I find that very convenient and easy, especially since I can transfer my favorite songs from CDs onto my tiny mp3 player.

You can actually play any mp3 files you've downloaded from peer2peer programs on your iPod.
Also, iTunes is software you can download for free.

You can actually buy a wireless transmitter at Best Buy (or other similar stores), so that you can use your MP3 player (which I'm assuming includes I Pods) in your car without a tape player. You just have to find a radio frequency that doesn't have a station.

I have a fairly cheap MP3 player, a SanDisc, and I love it.

I've had my ipod for about a year and just recently it died on me. It was brand new. Luckily apple replaced it for 30 bucks and I got a totally new one. The battery doesn't last that long, but I'm constantly charging it, in my car and at home. On a full charge you can probably get 6 full hours of nonstop music. iTunes is really easy to use, especially if you're using a peer2peer program; you just drag and drop and it automatically updates your ipod.

I've had a spotty history with Apple, especially since my iBook was damaged and they can't fix it because they have a very limited warranty. Overally, I'm happy with my iBook and my iPod, but Apple isn't the most user friendly if stuff breaks down.

I have a 1st Gen iPod that works with Windows (Win-doze) and Music Match Juke Box. No problems with that one. Nor with my iPod Shuffle which also uses a Windows program.

The problem began when I got an iBook and an iPod 60 GB video model. Apple, iBooks and iTunes suck big time. Most of the music I listen to on CDs is monaural and was recorded in the 30s and 40s so iTunes will not identify the tracks whereas MMJB does.

So I've reconfigured the newer Ipods to run on Windows and MMJB.

One has to be a rocket scientist to operate an Apple computer so I will be tossing the iBook and getting an HP that will hold everything and is user friendly.

iTunes has the habit of 'losing' my playlists or replacing them with 'their' music. I really don't listen to Hootie and the Blowfish or Gen X music or hip hop so iTunes is rather useless.

Actually I have also coverted many CDs to MP3 format and they play BETTER on an el cheapo Coby MP3 player I bought at Brooks Pharmacy.
Eeker

There have been a lot of battery issues with the newer iPods as well as system crashes, screens cracking and so forth.

Everyone should own a...Bose Wave music system.
Love
