Our lovely mall is on 'life support' The new food court is always empty as well as the Plaza which has pricey restaurants.

I just take a pen with me at the mall and cross off the stores as they close and the white walls go up.

So far we have lost two jewelry stores, Mikasa China, some snarky kiosks, Radio Shack, two luggage stores, a few clothing stores..the list goes on.

On the 'hit list' are SAKS and Macy's. Also Williams Sonoma.

I would not be surprised if Crabtree and The Body Shop close soon also.

BBW is SAFE. The shelves were picked clean after the holidays. VS is iffy because they closed VSB and pickings are pretty slim at VS. The store is very poorly kept.

Sephora in the next city is probably going to close. LUSH closed 2 years ago.

We just got Yankee Candle and J Crew but they are not getting any business. Same goes with Abercrombie.

The quote 'recession' actually started in 2007, so we have just seen the tip of the iceburg.

I just read in the paper that Target is cutting back and several more Starbucks are going bye bye.

Can we say...

The mall closest to me is dying. Frowner In the past couple of months, it's lost Waldenbooks, The Limited, Steve & Barry's, & Dillard's. It's mostly filled w/ urban clothing stores these days. BBW & VS still seem to be doing good business there.

The mall that's 45 min. away from me that has the BBW flagship seems to be doing fairly well. Then again, its clientele has a more disposable income. However, TBS closed back in 2007 & was replaced by a dog clothing/accessories store.

The outdoor shopping center that's 15 min. away for me that has Ulta & the movie theatre I frequent most seems to be doing well. Its clientele also has a more disposable income. But it had a few furniture stores (Bombay Outlet & Ashley Furniture) that have closed in the past year.

Kelli, I don't live in TN, but I do live in another Southern state. Maybe it's a regional thing.

The mall across the street from me is definitely not doing well, but it's been that way long before the recession.Frowner
There are a lot of vacant spaces. The BBW and VS are always busy, though, while most of the other stores seem empty.
I don't live in a densely populated area, so that doesn't help matters either.

The malls around me havent closed down too many stores yet. The malls seem alot slower and more empty. So I dont doubt that some stores wont be around much longer. Frowner

I can't say that our mall is doing great either. We actually don't have a food court anymore because our local Best Buy replaced it... and now the building that was once Best Buy is now empty. :S

I was at the mall a few days ago and it was quite empty. There didn't seem to be any stores closed but there definitely wasn't the type of traffic I'm used to seeing at that mall. Frowner

Several new 'white walls' at the mall.

A couple more jewelry and luggage stores. Also a few clothing stores like Talbot's.

Am kind of disappointed they closed a few Rite Aid stores in the area. Rite Aid always had neat stuff.

The mall has become a 'grey zone'.

Sad
