Mine chips off the same day sometimes. I wash my hands a lot so I'm sure that has a lot to do with it.
I use a top coat, but not a base coat so maybe I should start there.
If anyone has any tips on how to make your nail polish last, please post them.Big Grin

Fryl I have had the same problem, my hands are in water all day. Now I only have to paint my nails once a week, and even then they arent chipping. I swear that the nail polish remover you use makes a ton of difference. I also always use a base coat. Heres what I use:

*Pretty Nails nail polish remover. Whenever I dont use this, within a day my nail polish will peel right off. (unfortunately I have only ever found this at K-Mart)
*Orly Bonder (rubberized basecoat) at Sallys
*OPI nail polish
*Seche Vite top coat at Sallys

You also may have oily nail beds. After you remove the polish try a cotton ball with alcohol over your nails. If the problem is oily nail beds, that will correct the problem. I hope this helps Big Grin its frusturating to take the time to paint your nails, to have them chip away the next day!!! Mad

I also have the same problem.
I agree with everything Gizmo said, especially the oily nail beds part.

I don't use base coat much, only when I'm putting on a polish with strong color (like red) to prevent the color from staying on my nails after I remove the polish.
But I do apply the top coat twice, sometimes even 3 times, depending on how I do my nails.
The most important thing is to make sure you don't apply to much polish, the thicker your polish is the faster it chips off.

I believe the quality of the polish makes a lot of difference too. Unfortunatly I can't recommend anything since I'm overseas and I believe we have different brands over here. But basiclly ones that are easy to apply are the best quality ones.

Sorry I don't have the greates tips, but I hope that helped a little Smiler

Thanks for the tips as well, NbgsFL! They helped a lot. I think I used to use too much nail polish.Bonk

I did make it to SBS, and bought the Orly Bonder. They didn't have the top coat you recommended, Gizmo, so I got the Orly Won't Chip top coat instead.
My nail polish lasted for 5 days, and I had used some cheap Goldie nail polish!!!! Eeker
I am so happy about this, so thanks for the great tip!!

For those who wear nail polish, will your nails become looking awful from using nail polish and nail polish remover too often?
Sorry if this is a silly question.

Fryl, mine dont become awful looking. What I do about every other month or so is buff them. I bought a nail buffer at Sallys, and I buff them. If I dont do that they do start to look yucky, just from the nail polish staining them (they look yellowish) I even use a basecoat, but after awhile it still seeps through. I hope that helps a little, after I do that they look good again Big Grin. Are your nails doing that or something different?

BTW this isnt a silly question at all!!! hug

Ooh thanks for the tip, Gizmo!! I can always count on you for some answers about nail care.Big Grin
I'll pick up a nail buffer on my next trip to SBS.
My nails are still in good condition (using the base coat must have helped), but I am just worried that with the use of all that nail polish remover they may turn yellow. I'm the kind of person that will redo my nails the same day when I think it doesn't look right.insane Rotflol

So I got a Seche Vite top coat a couple of days ago and tried it out today, but it's not working out for me so far. It made my nail polish look a bit dull, instead of glossy like the Orly one does.
Now I am wondering if I got the correct one.
Gizmo, I need your help again, please.Big Grin
The one I got says "Dry Fast Top Coat". Are there more than one SV top coat, did I get the right one? If so, do you have to apply it in a certain way in order not to dull your nail polish?Bonk

Fryl, I just went and checked and thats what my bottle says. Hmm weird, I painted mine last Thursday and they still look good and shiny.

I dont apply it any differently, other than I have found with the top coat only if I apply it a bit thicker it lasts better. I am sorry to hear it isnt working out as well for you Frowner The only other thing I can think of is most of my polishes are shimmer as opposed to matte. Maybe thats why mine are still shiny idunno Do you have matte polish on? I dont know if that makes a difference, its just a guess. I'm sorry I couldnt help more.

Thanks for your response, Gizmo!hug
Hmm, I wonder why it didn't work out for me. I did read reviews on it and some people didn't get that shine from it either.Frowner
I used a shimmery polish, by the way.
I just put another coat of the Orly top coat, and it's shiny again.
I'll give the SV another try when I do my nails again with a different colour..Smiler
Thanks so much for all your help, Gizmo!kiss

This might be a little off topic, but it has to do with nail polish. Where can I get OPI nail polish? Do they sell it at Walmart? I can't seem to remember.... Thanks! Smiler

I've bought mine at JCPenney (salon) and Trade Secret.
Target has some too, but it's a very small selection.
You can also check the OPI website for locations near you.

For really good prices and a large selection check out: head2toebeauty.com .
They ship really fast.Yes

MissV, you could also try Ebay. If either of you are ever looking for a particular color, let me know. Since I have my cosmetology license, I go to Barnums quite often. Barnums is a huge retail store that sells every name brand of product you can think of. Unfortunately it is not open to the public, but everything is alot cheaper. OPI is normally $4 for example. I would be more than happy to pick you guys up something. Smiler
