I need a new shampoo and conditioner. I have long natural hair now. It's very dry! I've been using monoi oil which is helping a lot! I'm almost out of dove weightless moisture shampoo and conditioner and don't want to get it again. It leaves a slight residue on my scalp which then causes dandriff. This happens all the time though. I always have to change my hair products.

Anyway, my question is... Should I fork out the money for higher end shampoos? What do you guys use? Maybe even a suggestion for a restorative as well. I really want long natural beautiful hair. It's naturally blondish red and frizzy. I want it to be long shiny, gorgeous and lush! Ummm, is this possible???

I usually use medium-priced shampoos like Dove and Tresseme. They work nicely for me. Cheap shampoo like VO5 used to make my hair turn into a frizzied and tangled mess when I was about 13, but now it works just fine.

I really don't know what the best shampoo is, but Dove works very well for me. I used it when I lived in a dorm, and my hair was always silky.

Also, Philosophy's 3-in-1 shampoo/body wash/bubble baths make my hair nice and soft. Some people say they dry their hair out or are afraid because they have color-treated hair, but they're fine for me.

P.S. --- I'm loving my hair cut! Cheerleader

I use Dove and I still like it so far. I like to change shampoo/conditioner after a while too. I usually use low end because because i'm kind of low on cash right now and just don't care about my hair that much. I work in an environment where I have to tie my hair up all the time. But I might switch to some high end ones soon. One of my gf's uses Redken and her hair is so soft and shiny. I also want to try Back to Basics. I have heard some good stuff about that too.

I have fallen in love with Garnier Fructis conditioner. I use the "long & strong" variety. I can't use the shampoo because it gives me similar problems as you had with Dove, olfactorygirl. I use John Frieda Blonde shampoo instead. My suggestion would be to use a clarifying shampoo, and then follow it with a good moisturizing conditioner, but don't let the conditioner touch your scalp -- just put it on the "longer" part of your hair, if that makes any sense. This gives me good results. I also use Thremasilk spray on detangler/leave in conditioner, and during the winter or whenever my hair is especially dry, I use Fructis "long & strong" leave-in split end cream.

Ciao!

For me, cheap shampoo has been bad. I tried Herbal Essences shampoo for normal hair (the yellow one w/ chamomile) & that dried out my scalp. Frowner After that, I used shampoo & conditioner by Rusk for about the next 4 yrs. It's a shampoo only found @ salons, but I got tired of it 2 yrs. ago & wanted something more mainstream. This is when I discovered BBW's Botanical Nutrients line; Rosemary Mint shampoo & conditioner worked well for me. Smiler That same summer was when VS haircare was launched. I tried the Garden shampoo & conditioner in Strawberries & Champagne & it dried out my scalp. Frowner But then I tried So Sexy Volumizing shampoo & conditioner & it was amazing! Love I have been using that regularly & it's the best haircare product I've tried so far. I'm a redhead, thus my hair is considered an asset, so I don't mind spending $ on shampoo & conditioner. In the world of haircare products though, I think VS would classify as medium range priced haircare products.

I just use L'Oreal shampoos. I do have some VO5 Strawberries & Cream, but hardly use it. I only bought it for the scent Love
My hair is really healthy so I guess I am not too concerned about my shampoo. Go for something in-between.Smiler

I never thought spending $20 on a shampoo would be worth it, BUT IT SO IS!!!! You should try the Fekkai glossing line. It's amazing and a tiny bit will go a LONG way. It leaves my dry hair super soft and super shiny.

I'll never stray away from using VS Garden shampoo & conditioners. I bought some after reading a rave review about them here, I think from BBW Manager. They have been the only ones that can detangle my long, dry naturally curly hair. Plus, the scent lasts and lasts! I use the Dry & Damaged formula and have used both Strawberries & Champagne (using that now), and Love Spell (already used those up).

Obviously they don't work for everyone though, as Megan had bad luck with them unfortunately. Cry

I've spent a ton of $$ on many different kinds of expensive conditioners / shampoos, and nothing has worked as well as VS Garden, and the price isn't outrageous... $8.50 each I think, but seems like there is usually a sale.

I am adoring the American Girl Creamy Vanilla Shampoo and Conditioner. They make my frizzy, curly hair look so nice and don't weigh it down. They also do a wonderful job detangling, and my hair has never felt so silky in the shower. I just bought another bottle of conditioner the other day! I have a feeling I will be sticking with this brand for awhile.

Before that, I was using Tressemme Vitamin E S&C. Those work fairly nicely as well.

I don't care for Pantene, Herbal Essences, or John Frieda. Pantene weighs down my hair, and makes it dry out eventually. Herbal Essences smells great, but my hair never LOOKS great. I used the John Frieda Brilliant Brunette line, and I similiar problems as with Pantene. It has too many silicones and makes my hair feel yucky.

I have some of BBW's Botanical Nutrients shampoo and conditioner, but I'm not exactly sure if it works since I only used it once or twice. The almond leave-in conditioner has received rave reviews, so I bought some. I only used it once, but it was nice. It's a little similar to Aussie's 3-Minute-Miracle stuff.

I use Head and Shoulders on my scalp and other shampoos on the rest of my hair. The H&S hasn't really been helping. In fact, I think my dandruff is the same as it was before. I tried H&S one time in middle school and told my friend that it wasn't working. Some other girl overheard me and told me that I was a freak because it worked for everyone else. LOL, what a dork. Since my hair is dark brown (almost black, but not quite), dandruff shows up like a sore thumb. Does anyone know any really good dandruff shampoos?

I've seen commercials for one called Selsen Blue (not sure on the spelling). I know that it's available at most drugstores/Walmart-type stores. No clue on the effectiveness, but it's the only other one I've ever heard of.

Pretty soon I'm sure I'll be raving about the VS Garden haircare stuff too. I am supposed to receive my order tomorrow. Last time I ordered at VS it took 11 days to receive my order from start to finish, this time it'll have been just 5 days. Wow!Smiler I have never been more excited over shampoo than now. Banana

I love Suave, especially the ones that are "creamier" looking - Coconut, Citrus Smoothie - b/c they're formulated for dry hair.

I bought a Suave shampoo and conditioner awhile ago in Mountain Strawberry , surprise, surprise!Smiler
It smelled awesome, but unfortunately I can't use Suave shampoos, they make my scalp and hair dry. I still use the conditioner on my wool and cashmere sweaters to make them extra soft. TIP: The conditioner makes wool especially less itchy (at least to me).

Olfactorygirl, you need Victoria's Secret Garden Collection haircare products! You won't be dissapointed. You get the benefit of having soft and lustrous hair and have your hair smell like VS!
