I bought two used purses on eBay. They're in OK shape, but it smells like the previous owner soaked them in this sickeningly-sweet perfume before selling them. You guys probably already know that sweet-smelling body care makes me feel sick to my stomach. Sick

So, I was wondering if anyone here could give me any advice on what to do to neutralize the scent. They're not washable, so I'm at a loss on what to do. I was thinking about drowning them in one of my favorite perfumes, but then they'd just smell worse. help Thanks in advance for any advice!

Maybe let them air out for a bit? I don't know if it'll work for sure but hopefully it will Smiler

Also, what kind of fabric/material are the purses? There are some natural odor spray things you can buy, deodorizers??? I don't remember what it's called Crap

Yeah, I was going to recommend trying some Febreeze.

I agree with the Febreeze suggestion.

You might also try putting baking soda inside and letting it air out for a few days. I would get the baking soda "fridge packs" that expose a lot of it but it's not loose -- you'll see what I mean.

But, from personal experience, forget drowning them in your own scent. I've tried it, and it doesn't work at all. Errr

I wonder why she doused them in perfume. Maybe she is a smoker and was covering up the tobacca smell. idunno

Good luck getting the scent out, Wendy.

Febreze should do the trick. Baking soda is great too.

If the previous suggestions don't work, perhaps you could turn it inside out and try wiping down the liner with something damp. Good luck!

you are going to think I am nuts but I had a perfume vial burst in my luggage before and the only thing that removed the smell was kitty litter!

Place cat litter in an open container and close the purse. Make sure that the purse is lying flat so your kitties (if you have them) do not find it and use the litter! Leave it for a few days and then open the purse and wipe down the inside...most(or all) of the smell should be gone.

Hope it works for you too Smiler

Well, here's what I got, although I did NOT buy them from this seller:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=008&ss...0073204419&rd=1&rd=1

I got one in this color and a silver one. The silver one is by far the worst. Sick

Thanks to everyone for the feedback! I'll let you know if any of these things work. grouphug

Thanks, guys! I actually bought a white one last summer, and everyone from co-workers to my 9-year-old niece showered me with compliments. I just HAD to have the pink one! Flower

I would think the kitty litter trick would work as well. The whole purpose is for it to absorb moisture and odor.
