I'm a little stuck about what to wear for a friend's wedding coming up in a couple of months. I'm not in the bridal party or anything but I'd like to wear something nice since I don't have enough occassions for dressup anymore. What have you worn for weddings before when you came as guests? Can you please post pictures if possible? (Also, what would be good for a male guest to wear, I think my husband doesn't know what to wear either).

I haven't been to any weddings since I was in middle school, so I don't have any photos to provide. But at all the weddings I've gone to, I ended up wearing a knee length dress & nice shoes.

As far as your husband, I think dress shirt, tie, & black pants would look good.

Most weddings I've gone too, I've seen plenty of guests in a light summery dress, and male guests in just what Megan suggested.

If it's a very formal wedding, then you may want to go with a longer dress.

Hi, I work in a bridal and formal store so I thought I would mention some things that I hear from our brides.
The obvious one is don't wear white or ivory. That is the most common complaint from brides.
If the wedding is after five you should wear cocktail length (shorter) if not as formal of a wedding, full length (ankle or floor) if it is very formal. If you are wearing full length I would recommend that your husband wear a jacket.
Black is now ok for weddings, but I would avoid the colors of the bridal party. Ann Taylor usually has several nice dresses year round that are wedding appropriate. Ann Taylor Loft usually has similar styles for cheaper.
Hope this helps

I wish I had photos to share with you, but I agree with the general consensus here. A cute, not too casual, not too formal dress. If it is in the evening, go a little bit dressier than if its in the day. Book_fairy's advice about Ann Taylor is spot on! I've been to several weddings in the past few years, and I always get my dresses from Ann Taylor. I shop the clearance rack first, though! But you could always pop in there just for ideas.

You can't go wrong with a solid color or not-too-loud print dress that falls just below your knee.

As for your husband, thats the easy part. He'll just need a shirt and tie in a color that doesn't clash with you, since you'll probably have photos taken of you at some point. If he's not sure if he'll need to wear a jacket or not, I would say bring it anyway and he can always leave it in the car or over the back of his chair if he doesn't feel the need to wear it. The pants should match his suit jacket, of course, or be dress slacks if he's not wearing a jacket.

I hope this helps!

Ciao!

Thanks for the suggestions! I'm glad to know below-the-knee dresses are fine, and also that's it's now OK to wear black for weddings. I might post some pictures of some things I was thinking of wearing later on - maybe you could help me choose?

So it hadn't been as easy as I originally thought to come up with potential choices for what to wear. My favorite dressy clothing store downtown closed suddenly, and I didn't see anything I liked at the other stores. The wedding is next Saturday, and I've finally found a dress I really liked and bought it on Ebay!:

I was so happy to get such a deal on it since it would have cost about $130 retail... Now let's just hope it arrives in time! crossfingers
I decided on the dress because it seems like it will be relatively flattering to my body type (like many grown women, there are certain kinds of hip-clingly dresses I just can't get away with wearing Roll Eyes) and will go really well with a necklace I have with aquamarines (blue stones) in it. What do you guys think?
