I think I've told this story before, but I got addicted to 3 in. heels when I was 15. Basically, I was forced to wear sneakers until then & wanted to make an image change. It seemed like all the other girls started wearing heels when they were 13. I've found heels to be comfortable, but that's b/c I'm used to them. I also have flat feet, meaning that my feet don't arch all that much, so I don't know if that's a factor. One of my friends who's 5'7" was kinda shocked to realize that I was only 5'4" b/c I wear heels all the time. She came to the realization that she was really tall compared to me.

Also, I've got to say that heels make my calf muscles look sleeker. I feel fat whenever I have to wear flats. And I must say that I've never come across a guy who hasn't thought heels were sexy. Love

im only 5'5.i cant wear high heels because
i have bad feet, courtesy of retail. Roll Eyes
i wear chunky shoes, which i find give
me a boost and appear thinner,i can wear some
heels, but they have to be a low heel and
some sort of cushion, i have a high instep
and nothing for heels.i remember the flat
shoes and jelly ones from the 80's when i was
in high school, i did wear those then, when i was thinner and a lot younger.my best friend
at the time wore them all the time, in fact
i think most likely she probably does have them.
now i look for comfort.and im lucky i own
a couple pairs of good ones.

I am 5'5", so I can get away with fairly tall heels, but I like both heels and flats. I'm ok with my shortness, so I don't feel like I have to wear heels every day. For a loooooong time, flip flops were my shoe of choice (and they still are to some extent), but I have switched to wearing closed-toed flats more often. I generally wear heels to work, though.

I LOVE Steve Madden shoes (both heels and flats), like the ones Megan linked to.

I love shoes in general, really. And for those of you who haven't yet noticed my overall obsession with Target, I think they have great shoes there for cheap ... and a LARGE portion of them are actually Steve Madden knockoffs. Big Grin

And because I am a big dork, and I'm really bored, and I love love love me some shoes, here is a tiny portion of my shoe collection:
the red suede flats
the brown leather flats (SM knockoffs!)
the kitten heels I have these in both brown and black ... great for looking cute but being on your feet (SM knockoffs!)
cute tan/camel pumps with "toe cleavage" (SM knockoffs!)
adorable black kitten heels genuine SM!
black basics with open sides
brown basics

I have TON of shoes, but those are just the ones I felt like finding links to.

Ciao!

I love love LOVE flats!! To each their own, I suppose. I love heels, too, but flats are so cute and comfortable! If you follow the link, I actually have both the first and last pairs on the page (the red ones and the brown ones), and I LOVE them. I get compliments on them every time I wear them.

No those aren't what I am referring to (the ones you linked to are really cute Yes)...I'm talking about actual ballerina flats that are used by the dancers themselves on stage. I've seen women simply walking around with them and although I guess it's all about conditioning yourself to seeing them coupled with regular street wear, I think it's a bit much.

Janelle, I actually had a pair of the Steve Madden shoes in Violit that you posted a link to. Unfortunately, those shoes ended up being one of my only bad experiences w/ heels. There's a slight cut in the fabric that allows for the tie detailing on the shoe, but it hurt my little toe.

I've gotten back into buying Steve Madden shoes a lot this yr. For a couple of yrs. there, I maybe only got a pair or 2. He was doing a lot of gold metallic styles 1-2 yrs. ago. Crap I thought those looked so tacky. I tend to go for black shoes b/c they match w/ everything.

And we now have a thread for shoes to discuss our favorite styles. Yes

In my shopping trips @ the mall, I've noticed quite a few kids wearing sneakers that also have skating abilities. And I thought the glow on the heel sneakers that were popular when I was in elementary school were bad. Those skating sneakers look like they'd be quite dangerous. Crap I'm surprised some kid hasn't gotten seriously injured or killed b/c of these.

Megan, I know what you mean about those skating shoes. There are a cool idea for the kids but one time I saw this little girl crossing the street while "skating" on those shoes and she feel right on her butt on the road. After that her dad helped her up and held her hand while she "skated".

Fashion Pet Peeve = Fashion Victims (as my sister likes to call them)...people who are in designer stuff from head to toe. Could be either 1 designer or several. A woman at the mall yesterday had on Hollister, Victoria's Secret and Ugg's. Each company screaming it's brand name via labels on her clothing (and I also will mention that it definately wasn't cool enough here to warrant wearing winter boots yesterday). Instead of her paying a fortune for their overpriced merchandise, they should be paying her for the fact that she's a walking advertisement for their companies!

I refuse to pay $300 for a North Face fleece jacket with a nylon shell when you can get a similar item from LL Bean for $99.
Mall stores and Marshall's probably have them for even less.
Eeker

Bob's has a lot of good deals. Forget Burlington Coat factory..in our town anyway..it's totally ghetto.

Latest expensive accessories seen are Juicy Couture and UGG iPod cases..does an iPod really need a cozy slipper or hoochie case?
Rotflol

Speaking of 'fads'..I have seen some men wearing those short T shirts which expose beer guts, navel rings and a multitude of other sins.

Thought a pregnant woman with navel ring exposing her abdomen at the mall was gross. Now I've seen it all.

When in doubt..cover it up with a birka!

Guys wearing navel rings? Eeker I don't think I've seen that in person yet.

I guess an Ipod case could be practical if you were going travelling. But I've seen the prices for the Juicy Couture ones & they are quite pricy. It turns out that Goldie is coming out w/ cell phone cases & Ipod cases for the holidays. I saw them in the catalog. The silver fabric looks cute, but I didn't care for the faux fur looking trim so much.

I am the type of person who thinks that a designer label shouldn't be seen. Wink

I know purses are probably not in that category, because just by looking at it, you usually know what it is.

I would not spend alot of money on something that would look dated for along time and I could get tons of use out of it.

They have these "designer" thrift stores that I have been too and I got a beautiful vintage Valentino pea coat for $60 and then sold it on ebay for $150. Eeker

But this same store had white cotton t-shirts that they were trying to sell for $30. I would NEVER spend that much on a plain white t-shirt just because it had a designer label slapped on the back. Roll Eyes

One thing that annoys me is when people wear certain T-shirts that they know nothing about for attention. I have a friend who always buys anime shirts to wear and she knows absolutely nothing about anime. I am an anime fan, and whenever I suggest watching anime together, she refuses. The only one she's ever heard of is Sailor Moon, and she doesn't even know anything about that. Guess what; she recently bought a T-shirt that says "I Love Anime" on it, and love is replaced with the Japanese symbol for "love." She thinks people are going to come up to her and bow and kiss her feet because of her never-ending "kewl-ness." She does the same kind of stuff with video games, but that's a whole different story... Let's just say that she dislikes video games and sucks at them, yet she drags them around with her everywere and tried to wear shirts for video games that she's never heard of. This chick always tries to copy me. I wore Hello Kitty armwarmers one day, and now she's looking everywhere for them. She's freakin' 25! Soapbox rantonoff

It seems like the young generation is getting bad about this stuff too. I see 12-year-olds wearing T-shirts with Rainbow Brite, He-Man, abd other 80's symbols on them. They have no idea what they are, yet they think they look "hip" because none of their peers know what it's all about. Maybe I'll wear a T-shirt with random big bands from the 1940's and be uber-cool too. Curse

Last night, I saw someone have a monogram bumper sticker on their car. Crap I've seen way too many girls have monograms on their Vera Bradley bags & silver tag necklaces. That's bad enough. But a monogram on a bumper sticker? That just reeks of pretentiousness. Roll Eyes
